Memorial Day...A Day to Remember

Inspired by a card by Inkspired Treasures

Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day and was initiated to honor the soldiers for the Union and Confederate armies who died during the American Civil War.
Celebrations honoring Civil War heroes started the year after the war ended. The establishment of a public holiday was meant to unify the celebration as a national day of remembrance instead of a holiday celebrated separately by the Union and Confederate states. By the late 19th century, the holiday became known as Memorial Day and was expanded to include the deceased veterans of all the wars fought by American forces. In 1971, Memorial Day became a federal holiday.
The original national celebration of Decoration Day took place on 30 May 1868. When Memorial Day became a federal holiday, it was given the floating date of the last Monday in May. Since many companies close for the holiday, Memorial Day weekend is three days long for most people. It is the unofficial beginning of the summer vacation season that lasts until the first Monday in September, which is Labor Day.

CCMC408 - Color Challenge/Craft Project Central

This card will be used for 2 challenges. One is a color challenge and the other is a sketch. I used a retired image for my focal point because I really liked it and felt the flowers would be perfect.

Many Manly Occasions

Today was the last day of school for this year for me! Yea, now I am playing with my stamps. I am still waiting for the pre-order to come. Maybe I should have rushed it. Oh well, patience is a virtue I must work on. So, I am making the first card from the Many Manly Occasions Paper Pumpkin kit for this month. I will be on an Alaskan cruise on Father's Day so that means I have to remember to pack a card for my hubby. I am famous for making them and hiding them from myself!

You're the Best

\059

I am  playing with the Paper Players and Craft Project Central this week. I put this card together over the weekend then my dear hubby came by to do some computer maintenance and oops, he spilled water all over my desk. It ruined a few things but I was able to salvage this card...at least for a photo. Not sure it is 'sendable' unless I do it on a rainy week!

Basic Black and White... Always Pretty!

I love the classics together...like Basic Black and Whisper White. They are clean and refreshing however you do them. This is a card I cased from Pintrest and had to do it for myself. The flowers from Flower Shop are all so pretty. Glad it is not retiring this year. The sentiment is from You've Got This...also not retiring!

They Say It's Your Birthday

I saw this layout on a blog hop and love it! I am going to be using it to use up so much of my DSP stache that I have hoarded. It is quick and easy and you can simply change the sentiment to make it an 'un'birthday card. This sentiment is from the Suite Saysing set that is not retiring!

Retiring Card set

I don't know why but when that retiring list comes out I start playing with many of the sets saying Farewell. This year, as in the last couple, they are only selling until they are depleted on items. That means once it is gone, it is GONE! Don't miss out. Order today! This one is using the set Perfect Pennants.

Secretary Day Cards

I had to make 3 cards for my husbands secretaries and so I used the 3 colors seen here in this card. I used the scraps from those cards to make a card for my secretary at work.

Sympathy Cards...Gotta have them...Never seems to be enough!

I guess I came home from our trip to St. Croix and finally got to see the retirement lists. It must have put me in a mood because I sat down and made several sympathy cards. You know, you never have one when you need one. So using lots of retiring products I made a few cards.

Another...You've Got This

Huh, another Friday the 13th this year. Well, no worries because...You've Got This! I hope it will be a great day...it is the date for our school prom this year! Should be fun and interesting! This card was another clean and simple card while I had the sponges and set out.

The Best Things in Life...

It goes without saying but the best things in life are really not things...they are people and relationships! That is why I love to stamp and make cards and gifts. You can brighten people in big ways with a handmade card or gift. This one is very simple and this set is on the retirement list. Hate to see it go!

One Post, 2 Challenges...

I am doing this one card to hit both challenges this week. I hope everyone had a happy mother's day weekend. I got to play in the flowers so I was happy. Then, when I was speaking with son #2 I got a delivery of flowers from him! Well, I had to make a flowery card!

Wow! you did it!

It has been a few weeks since I made this card and just now am getting to post it. I don't remember where I saw it but I know I cased it...maybe from Stampin' Up! It will make a wonderful graduation card for a special young person.

You've Got This

While I had this stamp set out the other day I made another quick card. I already had all the rest put together and did not want it waste it. So...I quickly stamped, cut and shaded with my sponges. Easy Peasy!

Candy Box for a Friend in Deed!

I have always said that there are certain positions at schools that there is just not enough money to  pay their worth. One of these is special education para professionals. Their job is tireless and thankless. The next hardest job has got to be the school secretary. She is really the ears and eyes of the school. Well, I had one to quit on Thursday...just 7 weeks from the end of the year. Now another one who had been a secretary and had moved to greener pastures has been brought back. Well, she is not thrilled but she is a trooper. So, I saw this box in the last Stampin' Success (magazine for demonstrators) and decided she needed one. Hopefully she will know that I appreciate her.

Wedding Card inspired from Pintrest

I needed a quick wedding card for a shower gift and the bag I used for the gift was Black, White and Gold. Now, I know the card doesn't have to match the bag but when you can make it any way you want...why not? I actually gave the card away before I photographed it so I had to sit down and make another. Now I am ahead for the next one.

These colors stumped me a bit but I persevered and came up with a baby card using these colors. I started with the Calypso Coral card base and added some of the Schoolhouse DSP and then it just sort of came together.

World's Best Mother

I saw this little beauty on someone's blog page and I had to sit down to make one for me! It turned out so cute except somewhere I scored wrong and mine is a little wonky. But, you will get the idea of how beautiful it is. It is a tall bag made from 12x12 DSP and I am going to be making more of these for gift bags! I used stamps from Botanical Blooms and A Nice Cuppa (retiring). The colors are so soft and pretty. Mint Macaron, Pink Pirouette and Soft Sky.

Party Wishes

I recently spent an afternoon sorting all my cards. It seems that I have more Thank You's than any other. That really surprised me because I make birthday cards so much more. Maybe I send too many birthday's and not enough thank you's. Well, I will have to remedy that! The end of the year is coming and I will definitely be giving lots of thank you notes. So many people help me succeed at my job every day! In the meantime, here is another cute birthday card that I cased from the mini catalog.
