Watercoloring 101
Have you caught on to the watercoloring trend? This isn’t your grandmother’s version of watercoloring. It’s simple. It’s easy. You can’t mess it up. Welcome to Watercoloring 101! First step: Pick a super-cute stamp set to showcase eye-catching watercoloring. Begin!
I mainly use three different types of watercoloring:
I mainly use three different types of watercoloring:
- Shape outlining
- Direct-to-stamp
- Stenciling
I like to keep my ink pads nice and tidy, so to obtain my ink I simply use one of my clear blocks. Stamp your clear block directly on your ink pad and you’re set. Dip your Aqua Painter into a color and begin.
My favorite paper for using these techniques is the Watercolor Paper. I love the texture it brings to my projects as well as the color effects with the paint and water.
Shape Outlining:
To get this great effect, I used the new Large Polka Dot Embossing Folder along with the Word Bubble Framelits Dies. After you’ve run both through your Big Shot, start coloring. There’s no wrong way to do this. The only rule I follow is to leave a little bit of the embossed image uncolored. This makes your design pop more and look less perfect, which is what you’re going for anyway. Begin by applying ink to your Aqua Painter (I used Bermuda Bay and Melon Mambo for coloring the dots and the heart) and applying the ink to the watercolor paper in a painting motion. Color until you like what you see and let it dry. To finish off this card, I used Soft Suede Ink and Pumpkin Pie Ink, Kraft Cardstock, Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper, Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack, and Crushed Curry Baker’s Twine.
Here’s the up-close view of this awesome effect:
Direct-to-Stamp:
Do exactly what it says: color directly onto your stamp with your Aqua Painter. I stamped my image on Whisper White Cardstock so my image would look a little more blurry. I’m pleased with this look. I paired this technique with the Shape Outlining technique on the word bubble and I’m quite pleased. To finish off this card, add some a Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Write Marker (for the doodling) and some Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper for the super cute and tiny banner at the top of your card. If you want to stamp on top of your watercolored image, use the Jet Black StāzOn ink, but wait until your image is completely dry.
Up close:
Stenciling:
To get this great effect, I used the new star punch from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack and punched a Post-It note on the sticky part. Punching on the sticky part helps your mask stay flat while you’re using it as a stencil. Mine looked like this when I was finished:
Place your stencil on your watercolor paper, dip your aqua painter into Pumpkin Pie ink (from your clear block) and trace/color. Do not reapply ink each time. By doing this you’ll get color hue variations in your stars. Love!!
To finish this card I used the Banner Punch and the shape tracing technique, the new Tangerine Tango Baker’s Twine (it looks like Melon Mambo next to the Pumpkin Pie stars), Kraft Cardstock, and Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper.
All of these cards would be easy to show at a workshop or class. Once you start watercoloring, you can’t stop. Just think how cute it would be to color embossed images and use them in your Project Life projects (US/CA). Oh, the possibilities!

Paper Players Challenge #201: A Sketch from Nance
A quick card for this sketch. I am running way behind on my blogging with VBS this week at our church so I have borrowed from Stampin' Up! However, today I ran upstairs and quickly made a card for this sketch. It is very simple but at least I am crafting a bit! The picture doesn't do it justice but the center of the flower is done with the gold glitter.

Blended Bloom
I totally cased this little beauty from Jan Tinkleberg...she is so talented. I made this card with my stamper's group here in OKC this past weekend. It is always more fun to stamp with friends and I loved being able to demonstrate the new Blendabilities. The flower is colored using the Coastal Cabana colors and the banner was made using the Hello Honey. What a pretty combo!

Too Kind
For this card I used the new Hello Honey card stock with Whisper White and a scrap from the new Moonlight Designer Paper stack. I stamped using the Too Kind stamp set. The trim color is the new Blackberry Bliss. The stems were stamped using Mossy Meadow. Just add the oval pinpoints and you are done.

Waste Not, Want Not...
As we are still in the month of graduations I thought I would bring back an oldie but goodie idea. I used an empty button, brads etc...container to make this great little cash holder for a special graduate. I am always saving containers thinking 'what can I do with this?' Well, wonder no more with these little containers and get ready for all the grads this year or next.

Dad's Day
Celebrate Dad
Father’s Day is quickly approaching. My dad has asked for years that we not buy him presents, so I like to make sure I still recognize and celebrate him on Father’s Day. There’s no better way to make someone feel special than a handmade card. And I’ll likely bake something special, too.
Whenever I can’t find just the right greeting, I love to create my own using an alphabet stamp set. Our new 2014–2015 annual catalog has quite a few to choose from. The one I chose to use is the Metro Type Alphabet Stamp Set. And because all alphabet sets are offered in photopolymer, it’s easy to stamp words in a straight line. (No Stamp-a-ma-jig required!)
I also added a subtle wood background to my card front using the Hardwood Background Stamp. It has a clean, masculine feel.
A card is a simple way to express love and appreciation to someone. And although it’s not a present, I believe it’s the little things that matter most, anyway!
Happy Father’s Day, Dad!

The Paper Players/Pals Paper Color Challenge
I saw this challenge and immediately thought of a card I had seen a while back somewhere on the internet. I pulled out my Too Kind set because it looks a lot like fireworks in the sky. I kept it simple and the sentiment is from Geometrical.
Thanks for looking! I hope you will have a great Father's Day weekend.

New "Heroes" Stamp set
Calling All Heroes
A good portion of my youth was spent watching reruns of the campy Adam West Batman TV show, or filling notebooks with sketches of Michael Keaton wearing the cape and cowl. I even dug out this vintage drawing—dated '93—to verify my lifelong geek credentials.
Unlike some childhood properties that I have since aged out of (He-Man, anyone?) my love of Batman and superheroes has grown up with me—inspiring me to create a new photopolymer stamp set: Calling All Heroes (item 138002).
This versatile set is like having a fully-stocked utility belt of iconic comic book imagery. It includes an alphabet, burst shapes, a tileable cityscape and halftone pattern, and a variety of elements to recreate your favorite hero—or piece together an original creation. What would Dick Grayson look like with Clark Kent's glasses and Tony Stark's goatee? Get this set and find out!
Use the alphabet to stamp a custom POW!, ZAP!, or whatever super-sayings you can dream up. The Word Bubbles Framelits Dies (item132968) can also provide great accents for your comic-themed projects (although they don’t directly coordinate).
As the father of a little girl who loves donning capes and masks just as much as her older brother, I’m well aware that superheroes aren't just for boys anymore. I made sure this set could be easily adapted for both boys and girls.
Well, what are you waiting for? Grab Calling All Heroes today, and stamp out evildoers everywhere!

Few Pics from my recent Vacation
Did you miss me? I hope not! I planned it so my blog would have postings everyday while I was gone. Since I did not have a computer with me on my vacation I could not post any pics along the way so I will be posting a few here over the next several days.
Where was I? I went with my hubby of 33 years to the island of Bonaire, the Netherland Antilles. It is in the southern Caribbean, about 55 miles off the coast of Venezuela. We are scuba divers so most of our 'free' time was spent under water.
